How did the commitment process go for you?
The commitment process was great. I had spent a lot of time visiting colleges this past summer. During the fall I was able to narrow down my choices, sit down with some coaches and meet players from various schools. By that time, I had a good feel for where I wanted to be.

What were the reasons behind your verbal commitment? How was your visit?
My visit was awesome. I got to know Coach Danowski and Coach Gabrieli as well as some of the players. They were able to give me a good feel for the Duke lacrosse program. The school has everything I was looking for: the perfect combination of ACC lacrosse and great academics.

How would you describe your style of lacrosse and what do you believe your strengths are?
Duke plays an uptempo game that I thought would be a perfect fit for me. I would say my biggest strength is my work ethic. I work hard both on and off the field to continually improve my game.

What are your goals before you finish your high school career? What aspects of your game would you like to work on throughout your college career?
My biggest goal is to win a state championship. Our team is very young this year but we are very talented. I am continually working on all aspects of my game.

GHS Captain Alex Moeser Commits to Hofstra!
posted 12/06/2011

Alex Moeser’s freshman season on the Greenwich High School varsity lacrosse team was memorable for more than one reason.

For starters, the Cardinals completely an unlikely run through the FCIAC tournament by winning the championship.

Moeser also discovered something very important.

Namely, that he had the potential to eventually play Division I lacrosse.

That potential will soon become a reality.

The junior midfielder gave a verbal commitment to accept a scholarship offer from Hofstra, as we noted on Twitter.

Now, let’s hear directly from the 6-foot, 180-pound right-handed Moeser on his commitmet.

What were the main factors in your decision?
Hofstra has a great combination of academics and lacrosse.  (Head) Coach (Seth) Tierney and (Assistant) Coach (J.P.) Brazel were very welcoming when I visited, and I could really see myself spending four years there.

What other schools were you considering and what schools did you visit?
Maryland, Fairfield and Albany.  It was a very tough decision.

What are your strengths as a player and how would you describe your style of play?
My speed and my athleticism.  I am also a good team player and have a good lacrosse IQ.

What areas of your game do you think you need to improve on?
My defense and my offhand.

When did you first realize you had the potential to play at the college level?
My youth coaches told me early on that I had the potential to play at the D-I level and I realized that this was true when I made the varsity team as a freshman.

What were some of the big summer showcase events you’ve competed in the last couple of years and how id you do at them?
I attended Maverick Showtime twice and made the all-star team last summer.  The tournament was fun and I enjoyed meeting players from all around the country.
