Varsity Head Coach - Bobby Lutz
With over twenty years of teaching and coaching experience, Coach Lutz brings an immense amount of lacrosse knowledge to the Greenwich lacrosse program. In his fourth year leading the team, Lutz looks to once again make a run at both an FCIAC and state championship. Formally the associate head coach under legendary hall-of-fame coach Jeff Brameier, Lutz spent eight years at Darien High School, where he helped the Blue Wave win six state and four FCIAC championships. After graduating from Fordham University, Coach Lutz spent eight years as an assistant coach at his alma mater, New Canaan High School, working under another hall-of-fame coach, Howard Benedict. From 2003-04, he spent two years as an assistant at Stamford High School where he currently teaches English. He has helped coach over twenty-four All-Americans, sixty-two All-State players, three Academic All-Americans, and three CT Players of the Year.
Varsity Defensive Coordinator - Jeremy White
Coach White started the Stamford High School program in 2001 and was the head coach until 2013. Since 2013 Coach White has been an assistant at Norwalk High School. He was also the assistant boys varsity basketball coach at Stamford High School from 2002 - 2011 and an assistant boys varsity basketball coach at Norwalk High School from 2012 - 2016, where he helped lead the Bears to three FCIAC Finals appearances. He was also the head girls soccer coach at Stamford High School from 2012-15. He is currently an assistant with the girls basketball team at Stamford.
Varsity Assistant Coach - Alex Lerchen
This is Coach Lerchen’s first year with the Greenwich High School boys lacrosse team. Coach Lerchen played his high school lacrosse at Tabor Academy and went on to play midfield at Springfield College. He has been coaching with Greenwich Youth Lacrosse since 2015. He previously coached with Fairfield Youth Lacrosse and at numerous camps throughout New England. Lerchen is also the head coach of the girls hockey team at GHS, leading the program to its first two FCIAC titles in 2017 and 2018.
Varsity Assistant Coach - Chris Andrea
His first year coaching Greenwich High School boys lacrosse, Coach Andrea grew up playing GYL and played on varsity his freshman year at Greenwich High before completing his high school lacrosse at Trinity Pawling. Andrea then went on to play attack at Robert Morris University, helping to build the program in its infancy. He started his coaching career in South Florida by helping develop programs to expand lacrosse in the state. Coach Andrea has been coaching for GYL for four years alongside Coach Lerchen. Andrea resides in Stamford and works in digital marketing for Philips while he is not on the lacrosse field.
JV Co-Head Coach - Frank Wells
Coach Wells has coached at GHS for thirteen seasons and this will be his 10th year as JV Head Coach. After graduating from GHS, Coach Wells attended Western New England College where he played lacrosse and was captain of the lacrosse team for two years. Coach Wells is a personal trainer at the Edge Fitness Club in Riverside, CT and at All American Athletes in Stamford, CT.
JV Co-Head Coach - Joe Vrtiak
Coach Vrtiak has been coaching the Freshman Boy’s Lacrosse Team at GHS for ten years. His lacrosse career began from 1980 to 1989 at Eastern Junior High. From 1990 to 2002, he was an assistant coach at New Canaan High School, spending several of those years coaching the freshman team with Coach Lutz, a former player of his at NC. Coach Vrtiak is greatly indebted to Mr. Howard Benedict, New Canaan’s Head coach for thirty-five years. Coach Vrtiak calls him “The Master” and credits him with continued support, mentoring and for instilling in him an unbridled passion for lacrosse. Coach Vrtiak is part of GHS’s Special Education Program.
Freshman Head Coach - Ben Allen
Coach Allen has coached high school lacrosse for seven years in Ohio and West Virginia. He played midfield in high school in Wooster, Ohio where his team won the 2002 OHSLA Division I State Championship. He then went on to play at Miami University. Coach Allen and his family moved to Greenwich this winter, where he works as the Area Director for Young Life in Greenwich.
